He’s a Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, Walnut Street Blues sort of guy.I am more a Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Abba sort of girl.So, when Gary came hurrying into the kitchen to tell me he just heard a great song and he was sure I would love it, I was a little surprised.The items seem random, odd and at no point can the listener discern why he might need or even want that catalog of things.And a few days later when I heard the lady next to me say, I’ll have Kale in my smoothie, the tune came back to me.It smells terrible when you cook it, it looks unappealing on your plate and it is strong flavored on the tongue.I can’t afford to compound the situation by marking other vegetables off the list of consumables.I will try different prep methods, eating it cooked, raw, cold or hot.I will try it with a chip or cracker, mix it with sauce — until I find three ways to eat it.That way, if the kale ruined a good soup, I wouldn’t be stuck with a whole pot myself.Slivers of coconut and threads of oily Kale in a watery carrot puree would fail my texture rules.So, I began to adapt the recipe and came up with a lovely carrot soup with ground kale and coconut salt that can be added at the table or mixed in.Fried or baked Kale chips are good, if you don’t over salt them or cover them with an odd fake cheese flavor.Put the carrots and onions in a crock pot and add a little of the cooking water.Add the ginger pulp, coconut milk, and lime juice.Turn the crockpot to low and let the soup simmer for at least two hours to let the flavors combine.Remove it from the tray to cool Repeat with batches of kale until you have crisped up the full bunch.Garnish: In a small spice grinder add coconut, salt and the kale leaves in batches until it is all a fine grind, but not powdery. .
